Introduction
The first portion of this podcast is an interview I conducted with one of my 7th grade students to learn about his view of science. The latter portion of this podcast is my reflection about what I learned from the student. In the interview, I ask the student open-ended questions in order to probe into his thinking and spur him to explain his thoughts even further. The student was not privleged to see the interview questions ahead of time to prepare his answers.
Context
This assignment was a part of a course I took Fall of 2010, Learners in Schools and Other Settings. One goal of this assignment was to practice designing quality open-ended questions in order to learn about any topic of interest by interviewing another person. We then had to analyze the responses using different learning theories to learn more about how others think and interpret information.
Educational Application
Podcasting in general can be used in to support teaching and learning in various ways:
1. Distance Learning: Instructors can record lectures and post them on a class website.
2. Local Learning: Teachers can record lessons and post them on a classroom website. These can be helpful for students who were absent; students
who need to review the material; and parents who would like to know what was taught.
3. Virtual Guest Speakers: Many podcasts are available online of various lectures. These can be played in the classroom or made available to
students to supplement learning. A special speaker may also record themselves and send the podcast to the school, especially if they live too far
away to travel.
4. Assignments: Students could record their responses to any assignment and e-mail them to the teacher, or post them for peers to listen to.
5. Accommodations: Students with difficulty writing could record their ideas for their teacher to listen to.

* Windows Live Movie Maker (title screen)
* Screencast (web hosting site).
